Our fearless leader and co-owner of the Boxing Rink, Michael Martelli is a former competitive boxer at the Olympic level. He is a professional boxing coach licensed by USA Boxing, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Oakland University, and has additional specialty training in MMA Conditioning, Youth Exercise and Fitness Nutrition and Corrective Exercise through NASM. His knowledge of boxing, hands on experience as a fighter, and the amount of passion, energy and sweat equity he puts into every training session is why everyone loves Coach Mike!
CO-FOUNDER / YOGA INSTRUCTOR: Barbara Deyo
Deyoga Room™, a part of The Boxing Rink™, is the “yoga baby” Barbara Deyo. Barbara found yoga in 2003 at CFY in Birmingham and fell in love with the practice. Teaching wasn’t on her radar, but somehow it found her – in 2016 she completed her teacher training with Bryan Kest, and began sharing her love of yoga to others, leading by example in her “guided” classes. Barbara is a health, wellness, and beauty writer, and owner of Deyo for face and body in Birmingham. She he is an internationally acclaimed makeup artist, eyebrow shaping expert, microblading technician, airbrush tan specialist. Her work has been published worldwide. She has been named Best of the Best by Allure, Hour and Brides Magazines, WDIV and CBS.
CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER / YOGA INSTRUCTOR / ROCK STEADY BOXING COACH: Deb Colling
Deb is a Certified Personal Trainer, CPR/AED certified and 200 hour Certified Yoga Teacher, and has been a professional in the industry for over a decade. She emphasizes proper form and alignment over the number of reps for each of her clients. She loves helping people feel better about themselves and excels at finding each person’s individual needs. She has developed a specific yoga course – Deyoga Stretch for PD – to help those with Parkinson’s to compliment the Rock Steady Boxing Troy’s program.
CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER / STRENGTH / SAQ SPECIALIST: Jerrid Schalk
Fitness has been a part of Jerrid’s life since he could walk. He is an all around athlete and health and fitness has been a part of his daily vocabulary. He is a certified personal trainer and nutritionist, AED/CPR certified, a Youth Wrestling Official, and studied Exercise Science at OCC.
